Athletics 2, Yankees 1:
Brandon Inge blasted a solo home run in the eighth inning to snap a tie and Jarrod Parker dominated through eight frames as host Oakland beat New York for the third straight night.

Yoenis Cespedes added a solo blast and Sean Doolittle worked around a leadoff hit in the ninth and struck out the side for his first career save for the Athletics, who are six games over .500 (50-44) for the first time since July 18, 2008.

Yankees starter Phil Hughes cruised through the first seven innings on two hits. Back out for the eighth, the right-hander left a first-pitch fastball to Inge over the plate. The veteran third baseman blasted it to right-center field, knocking it off the concrete above the 388-foot sign for his ninth homer.

Parker (7-4) was just a touch sharper for Oakland, allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out five. The 23-year-old right-hander did not yield an extra-base hit and surrendered his lone run in the fourth inning, when Alex Rodriguez led off with an infield single, moved up twice on groundouts and scored on Raul Ibanez’s single.

Oakland got that run back in the bottom of the frame. Cespedes came up with two outs and none on and clubbed a rocket deep into the left field seats for his 13th home run.

Hughes (9-8) ended up going 7 2/3 innings and allowing two runs and four hits while walking two and striking out six.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Parker has allowed one run or fewer in 10 of his 16 starts this season. … Yankees RF Nick Swisher had an MRI on his injured hip on Saturday and has been ruled out until at least Monday. … Oakland closer Ryan Cook got the night off after working three straight games. … New York had its 43-game streak of scoring at least three runs snapped on Friday and have managed a total of three the last two nights. … Yankees 2B Robinson Cano (0-for-4) had his 23-game hitting streak snapped.
