Yankees 4, Mets 2: Mark Teixeira hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning and the host New York Yankees made it two straight wins in the Subway Series.

Phil Hughes (6-5) won his third straight decision, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six in 6 1/3 innings, as the Yankees remained one-half game back of AL East leader Tampa Bay.

Curtis Granderson swatted his 18th homer, a solo shot in the eighth, to provide insurance and give the Yankees their fifth win in six games. Closer Rafael Soriano worked out of a two-out, two-on jam for his ninth save in as many chances.

David Wright and Omar Quintanilla clubbed solo home runs for the Mets, who have lost five of six to drop 3 1/2 games behind division-leading Washington in the NL East.

The Yankees went ahead with a milestone run in the first inning when Alex Rodriguez singled off Mets starter Dillon Gee to bring home Derek Jeter.

It was the 1,917th RBI for Rodriguez, tying Eddie Murray for seventh on the all-time list, and the 1,800th run scored by Jeter, moving him past Ted Williams for 17th place on the career list.

Gee (4-4) was solid in his seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked three.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hughes has allowed at least one home run in each of his first 12 starts, which is two shy of the major-league record set by Bert Blyleven in 1987. ... Quintanilla's homer was his first since Aug. 24, 2008, when he was with the Colorado Rockies. ... Yankees LF Brett Gardner felt pain in his elbow in a minor-league rehab game and is scheduled for a visit with Dr. James Andrews. Gardner has been sidelined since mid-April. ... Mets LF Jason Bay was hitless in four at-bats and is 0-for-7 in his first two games since missing nearly seven weeks with a broken rib. ... Yankees reliever David Robertson is scheduled to pitch at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
