Yankees 4, Rays 1: Ivan Nova scattered four hits over eight solid innings and Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano belted solo homers as host New York cruised to its 10th victory in 13 contests.

Nick Swisher and Eric Chavez provided insurance in the eighth inning with back-to-back RBI doubles for the Yankees, who handed the Rays their seventh loss in 10 games.

Nova (7-2) allowed a leadoff single by Desmond Jennings to start the game before handcuffing Tampa Bay until the ninth inning. Jennings and B.J. Upton had back-to-back triples in the frame to end Nova's bid for his first career complete game, but Rafael Soriano silenced his former team for his eighth save.

Nova, who is 4-0 lifetime versus the Rays, defeated Tampa Bay for the second time this season. He allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings in a 5-3 win on May 8.

Teixeira opened the scoring in the second inning by launching a hanging curveball from Alex Cobb (2-2) into the second deck in right field. Teixeira's homer was his 10th of the season - and the first allowed by Cobb this season.

Cano doubled the advantage in the fourth inning when he drilled a fastball just over the wall in right field.

Cobb pitched well before coming unglued in the eighth. After allowing just the two homers, he yielded two more runs on three hits before exiting the frame without recording an out.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Tampa Bay 3B Evan Longoria believes he's turned the corner with his injury and he's ready to return to the diamond. Longoria has been sidelined for 32 games since being placed on the disabled list with a partially torn left hamstring. "It's at the point where I'm ready to push it," he said. "I'm ready to see where we can get on a daily basis. ... I think right now, the optimistic goal is to go out somewhere and play at the end of this road trip." ... Teixeira scored his 900th career run after crossing the plate on his home run.
