Yankees 5, Rays 3: Raul Ibanez slammed two homers and drove in three runs to back seven strong innings from Ivan Nova as host New York ended a seven-game losing streak at the hands of Tampa Bay.

Curtis Granderson also homered as the Yankees sent the Rays to their third straight defeat and beat Tampa Bay for the first time since Sept. 21, 2011.

Nova (4-1) allowed two runs and tied his season high with eight strikeouts to win for the 16th time in 17 decisions. David Robertson loaded the bases in the ninth before striking out Carlos Pena to earn his first save since closer Mariano Rivera suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Rays starter James Shields (5-1), seeking to win a club record-tying sixth consecutive start, gave up three runs on four hits in six innings to fall to 2-7 lifetime at Yankee Stadium.

Ibanez belted a towering two-run shot off Shields in the fourth inning and Granderson clubbed his 10th homer in the fifth to make it 3-0 and extend his streak of reaching base to a major league-leading 28 games.

The Rays got within a run on solo blasts by Jose Molina in the sixth and Luke Scott in the seventh, but Ibanez led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot off reliever Burke Badenhop to make it 4-2.

Ben Zobrist lashed a leadoff triple off Rafael Soriano in the eighth and scored on a wild pitch to cut it to 4-3, but Mark Teixeira's run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth restored New York's two-run lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte will start for the Yankees on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners. Pettitte has been pitching in the minors to get in shape after ending his one-year retirement. It will be his first major league start since Game 3 of the AL Championship Series on Oct. 18, 2010. ... Rays LF Desmond Jennings was not in the lineup. He suffered a sprained knee in Sunday's loss to Oakland. Matt Joyce started in left. ... Granderson hit his first homer off Shields. He was 3-for-46 against him entering the game. ... Shields was looking to open a season 6-0 for the second time in his career. ... Yankees general manager Brian Cashman declined comment on a New York Post report that surgeons ran into "complications" when examining Rivera's injured knee.
