Andrew McCutchen homered twice and Jason Jaramillo singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates took the rubber match from the visiting Houston Astros 5-4 on Wednesday.

McCutchen hit a solo blast in the first and added a three-run shot in the fifth to boost his season total to 22. The All-Star slugger has 85 RBIs after going the previous seven games without plating a run. He was 2-for-20 in that span.

Jaramillo's pinch-hit came with runners on first and second in the eighth off Sergio Escalona. Wilton Lopez (2-6) took the loss.

Tony Watson (2-2) earned the win in relief and Joel Hanrahan worked a quick ninth for his 36th save.

Houston held a 4-1 edge into the fifth. After putting two runners on in the bottom of the fifth, the Astros held a mound meeting to decide how to deal with McCutchen.

Whatever they decided proved to be wrong as McCutchen took the first pitch from J.A. Happ and lined it into the stands in left to make it 4-4.
