Will Venable fell a home run shy of the cycle and Cameron Maybin drove in a pair of runs as the visiting San Diego Padres posted a 9-5 victory over the banged-up New York Mets on Wednesday.

Rookie Jesus Guzman, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI single, drove in a run and swiped home on a double steal in a three-run ninth inning. Seven players had at least an RBI for the Padres.

The Mets, who rallied against the vaunted San Diego bullpen each of the last two nights, loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth against Heath Bell, but rookie second baseman Logan Forsythe ended the game with a leaping grab of a line drive by Willie Harris.

New York showed its resiliency again after falling behind 5-0. Harris’ pinch-hit RBI single off Luke Gregerson in the eighth cut the lead to 6-4, but Justin Turner hit into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.

San Diego scored in each of the first three innings against R.A. Dickey (5-11). Forsythe’s third-inning RBI double one-hopped the warning track in left field and scored Guzman. Alberto Gonzalez added an RBI sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead.

Aaron Harang (11-3) carried a 5-1 lead into the sixth, but departed after allowing a two-out RBI double to Nick Evans and a pinch-hit single to Jason Pridie. Harang allowed three runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The Mets, who are already without Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy, lost Angel Pagan to back spasms in the fourth.
