Joel Pineiro pitched 6 1/3 strong innings for his 100th career win and Torii Hunter had a big night at the plate as the visiting Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim edged the New York Mets, 4-3, on Friday in a game that started 33 minutes late due to rain.

Hunter had three hits and Peter Bourjos added a go-ahead double for the Angels, who have won three of four.

The Mets, who fell in 10 innings Thursday on a walk-off balk, suffered another tough setback against Los Angeles, putting the first two batters on in the ninth and failing to push across the tying run. Jordan Walden struck out Carlos Beltran, Daniel Murphy and Angel Pagan in order for a shaky 16th save.

Pineiro (3-3) scattered two runs and six hits while striking out four to move to 4-0 in his career against New York.

Bourjos gave the Angels the lead when he took the first pitch from Chris Capuano (5-7) in the sixth and pulled it down the third base line, scoring Howie Kendrick to make it 3-2. The Angels would tack on an insurance run in the following frame on Hunter’s opposite-field single.

Hunter’s run turned out to be the key when the Mets snuck across a run against Scott Downs in the eighth.
