The Pittsburgh Pirates spoiled an excellent outing from R.A. Dickey with five runs in the final two innings to post a 5-1 victory over the host New York Mets on Tuesday.
Neil Walker delivered a two-run single on an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the eighth off Dickey to give Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead. That came after Josh Harrison completed a two-hit major league debut with a run-scoring single. Brandon Wood delivered a two-run single in the ninth to provide insurance.
Dickey (2-6) carried a two-hit shutout into the eighth before falling apart. He was charged with three runs and five hits in 7 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out a career high 10.
Pittsburgh starter James McDonald provided the Pirates with another solid start. The righthander yielded just a run - an RBI infield single by Jason Bay in the first - and six hits in six innings. It was the 12th straight game that a Pittsburgh starter allowed two earned runs or less.
Evan Meek (1-1) pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the win.
