Carlos Beltran had a double, a triple and two RBIs and Dillon Gee bounced back after a rough first inning to lead the New York Mets to a 7-4 victory against the Chicago Cubs in a rain-shortened game Wednesday at Wrigley Field.

Play was suspended with two on and two out in the top of the seventh, and the game was called approximately 45 minutes later.

The decision to pull the tarp sent Cubs manager Mike Quade scrambling out of the dugout to plead with the umpires that the game should continue.

Chicago scored four runs in the first to take a 4-1 lead as Reed Johnson and Alfonso Soriano each hit two-run doubles against Gee.

But Gee (4-0) went all six innings and allowed only one more hit after the first. He struck out four and walked two. The Mets are 6-0 in Gee's starts this season.

Cubs starter Casey Coleman (2-4) didn't get out of the second inning, allowing six runs on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings. Two of the runs scored after Coleman left the game, as reliever Justin Berg walked all three batters he faced - two of them with the bases loaded.

Beltran's two-run double was the big hit in the Mets' five-run second inning. Daniel Murphy also drove in two runs, with an RBI single in the first and a bases-loaded walk in the second.
