Luis Rodriguez led off the bottom of the 12th inning with a home run as the Seattle Mariners salvaged the finale of their three-game series with a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
New York remained four games ahead of Boston in the American League East.
Rodriguez, who also doubled twice, deposited a 2-1 offering from Cory Wade (5-1) into the seats in right field for his second homer of the season. The blast gave the Mariners their fourth win in 14 games.
Steve Delabar (1-0) picked up his first career win after working a perfect 12th.
After New York's Andruw Jones was thrown out at the plate in the third, Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Mike Carp raced home on a wild pitch by Ivan Nova.
The Yankees pulled even in the seventh on Nick Swisher's 23rd homer of the season.
