Russell Martin walked with the bases loaded to snap a tie in the ninth inning as the New York Yankees rallied from a three-run deficit to record a 5-4 road victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.
Mark Teixeira and Brett Gardner had RBI singles and Curtis Granderson reached base four times for New York, which has won five of its last seven games.
Making his major-league debut, Alex Torres (0-1) struggled with his control in the ninth. After yielding a single to Granderson, Torres issued an intentional walk to Nick Swisher followed by conventional ones to Andruw Jones and Martin.
The 23-year-old Torres was recalled after Tampa Bay exhausted nine pitchers in its 16-inning loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.
All-Star David Robertson (3-0) picked up the victory after striking out two in the eighth. Mariano Rivera retired the side in the ninth for his 24th save.
Evan Longoria ripped a two-run double and Casey Kotchman had an RBI single for Tampa Bay, which has dropped seven of its last 10.
The middle of the game was delayed 18 minutes after a power outage at Tropicana Field.
