CC Sabathia became the majors’ first 11-game winner and the host New York Yankees blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 Thursday afternoon for their fifth straight victory.
Sabathia (11-4) won his fourth straight outing in overpowering fashion, fanning 13, walking two and scattering six singles over 7 2/3 innings. Sabathia has now beaten every team in the majors except Florida.
Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun went 3-for-3 with a walk to extend his hitting
streak to a career-high 20 games. The sweep cut the Brewers’ lead in the
NL Central to half a game over the Cardinals. Milwaukee visits
Minnesota this weekend.
Robinson Cano cracked a two-run double off Randy Wolf (6-5) in the first, and Mark Teixeira belted his 25th homer, a solo shot, in the third. Francisco Cervelli added three hits and two RBIs. New York, which has won nine of 11, rolls into the Subway Series this weekend at Shea Stadium.
