CC Sabathia became baseball’s first 10-game winner and Alex Rodriguez drove in three runs to carry the New York Yankees to an 8-3 rout of the visiting Colorado Rockies on Saturday afternoon.

Sabathia (10-4) allowed one run on eight hits in eight innings to win his third straight start and improve to 7-1 in his last eight outings. He tied a season high with nine strikeouts. Tommy John in 1979 was the last Yankee to be the first pitcher in the major leagues to 10 wins.

Rodriguez had an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run double in the third as the Yankees built a 5-0 lead through three innings against Rockies starter Aaron Cook (0-3). Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to six games and his RBI streak to five games, knocking in eight runs during that span.

Mark Teixeira belted his 22nd homer, a two-run shot in the eighth, to help New York end a two-game losing streak.

Ty Wigginton homered and Troy Tulowitzki had two hits for Colorado, which lost for the third time in 10 games.
