Brett Gardner grounded a walk-off single into right field with one out in the 12th inning and the New York Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Texas Rangers with a 3-2 win on Thursday afternoon.

Gardner's hit off Michael Kirkman (1-1) plated Curtis Granderson and made a winner out of Cory Wade (1-0), who pitched two innings to help send Texas to its season-worst fifth consecutive defeat.

The Yankees got a good effort from journeyman Brian Gordon, who allowed two runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings in his first major league start. He had just three other appearances - all in relief - in 2008 with Texas.

Rangers starter C.J. Wilson went eight strong innings and gave up two runs on seven hits. He had his fifth double-digit strikeout game of the season, fanning 10.

After Russell Martin gave New York an RBI single in the second, the Rangers went ahead on Ian Kinsler's two-run double in the fifth. Jorge Posada's RBI double tied it at 2-2 an inning later.

New York closer Mariano Rivera made his 1,006th career appearance to move into 13th place on baseball's all-time list.
