The Seattle Mariners scored four times on groundouts to overcome a three-run deficit and post a 4-3 home victory over the New York Yankees in the opener of their three-game series Friday.

Brendan Ryan and Ichiro Suzuki each drove in a run and scored another for the Mariners, who have won nine of their last 11 games.

Trailing 3-0, Seattle scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth. After Ryan singled and Suzuki doubled to start the fifth, Luis Rodriguez and Justin Smoak each plated a run with a groundout.

The Mariners loaded the bases in the sixth on two hits and a walk before Ryan tied the game with a fielder's choice. Suzuki followed with a groundout against Luis Ayala (1-1) that plated Miguel Olivo with the decisive run.

David Pauley (3-0) got the win with two scoreless innings in relief of Michael Pineda, who allowed three runs on three hits and a career-high five walks in five frames. Brandon League worked a perfect ninth for his 13th save in 16 opportunities.

New York starter A.J. Burnett also struggled with his control, issuing five walks in five innings while surrendering two runs and four hits.

Mark Teixeira went 2-for-4 with a homer for the Yankees, who had won seven of nine overall and three straight on the road.
