Mark Teixeira hit two home runs to back the stellar pitching of Phil Hughes and the New York Yankees made it five straight wins with a rain-shortened 6-0 victory over the host Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

Teixeira smacked his 30th and 31st homers - giving him eight straight seasons with at least 30 - and set a major league record by going deep from both sides of the plate in a game for the 12th time.

Hughes (2-3), pitching with his rotation spot in jeopardy, allowed three hits in six innings to send Chicago to its fourth straight defeat. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter before rain halted the game entering the bottom of the seventh.

Derek Jeter had a pair of hits to move past Rafael Palmeiro into 24th on the all-time list with 3,022.

White Sox starter John Danks (4-9) had his four-game winning streak snapped and lost for the first time since May 29. He allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings.
