Robinson Cano drove in five runs in his first career five-hit game and the New York Yankees rode a record 12-run first inning to a 17-3 demolition and a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.

The Yankees sent 16 men to the plate in amassing the highest first-inning run total in franchise history and their most runs overall in an inning since they scored 13 against Tampa Bay in June 2005.

In the first inning alone, Nick Swisher had a two-run homer and three RBIs and Cano, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira drove in two runs apiece. Curtis Granderson finished with four hits as New York collected 24 for the game.

Swisher also homered in Saturday's first game as the Yankees outscored Baltimore 25-6 in the doubleheader to improve to 8-1 against the Orioles this season.

Ivan Nova (9-4), recalled from Triple-A to make the start, won his fifth straight decision by allowing two runs in seven innings.

Vlad Guerrero went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Baltimore.

Rookie Zach Britton (6-8) was battered for nine runs on seven hits in one-third of an inning in his return to the majors. He struck out Jeter to lead off the first before allowing the next nine men to reach.

Britton, who won five of his first six starts this season, had lasted only two-thirds of an inning vs. Boston on July 8 before he was sent to the minors.
