The Boston Red Sox once again took down the New York Yankees and one of their sluggers in a 6-4 win Tuesday night.

Boston improved to 6-1 against its heated rival this season and could be on the fast track to its second straight sweep in the Bronx after Mark Teixeira hobbled off early in New York’s defeat.

Jon Lester (8-2) allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out five in six innings, but his most punishing pitch was a 90 mph fastball that nailed Teixeira’s right knee. X-rays turned out to be negative, but the slugger, who had cracked seven home runs in his previous 10 games, could miss the rest of the series.

Boston’s big bats, meanwhile, continued bashing, as Jacoby Ellsbury and David Ortiz each homered. Adrian Gonzalez scored two runs and upped his league-leading RBI total to 51, while Dustin Pedroia also drove in a run on his team-high 14th hit against New York this season.

Yankee starter Freddy Garcia (4-5) allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings – his shortest outing since last July.

Jorge Posada had three hits in place of Teixeira, including the team's only one off the Sox bullpen. That scored a run in the ninth off Jonathan Papelbon, but the closer rebounded to earn his 12th save after appealing a three-game suspension earlier in the day stemming from a weekend ejection in Oakland.
