Adam Dunn recorded the first three-homer game of his career and drove in five runs in support of J.D. Martin, who earned his first win of the season as the Washington Nationals held off the San Diego Padres, 7-6, on Wednesday.

Ryan Zimmerman added two hits and an RBI and Ian Desmond chipped in a solo homer for the Nationals, who have taken the first two games of the three-game set.

Dunn snapped a 1-1 tie and a 12-game homerless drought in the bottom of the first with a three-run homer off right-hander Jon Garland (8-6) and added a solo shot off Garland in the third. His third homer of the night - and 20th of the season - came in the eighth off Joe Thatcher.

Martin (1-4) allowed six hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings while striking out four and walking one. It was the sixth time in seven starts that the right-hander allowed three runs or less this season.

Adrian Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with a homer and two runs scored for the Padres, who scored four runs over the final three innings to make it interesting.
