Roy Halladay tossed eight strong innings and Placido Polanco added an RBI single as the Philadelphia Phillies took advantage of three costly errors by the New York Mets and cruised to a 4-0 triumph on Saturday.

Polanco and Shane Victorino had two hits apiece for Philadelphia (65-51), which notched its ninth win in 12 outings to remain hot on the heels of the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves.

Jimmy Rollins came around to score on second baseman Ruben Tejada's throwing error in the fifth inning and Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino did the same after third baseman David Wright let the ball go through his legs in the sixth.

The Mets' defensive miscues were a welcome sight for the Phillies, who finally scored at Citi Field this season. Philadelphia has been shut out in four previous games in Queens in 2010.

The unconventional offense was enough for Halladay (15-8), who allowed four hits and struck out seven without issuing a walk to secure his fifth straight win. Ryan Madson worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to strike out the side to end the game.

Journeyman left-hander Pat Misch (0-1) permitted four runs - one earned - and eight hits in six innings to take the loss for the Mets (58-58).

Fresh off a two-game suspension, Francisco Rodriguez allowed a leadoff double to Greg Dobbs before retiring the side in the ninth inning. The Mets closer drew the absence after he was arrested and charged with third-degree assault on Wednesday night after a physical altercation with his father-in-law.
