The Mets scored in each of the first four innings to take an 8-0 lead in a 14-hit attack, chasing starter Craig Stammen (2-3) with one out in the fourth. Stammen allowed seven runs on eight hits.

Bay opened the scoring with a two-run triple in the first and added a two-run single in the fourth. Pagan went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, driving in runs with a single in the second and a double in the seventh.

Mets starter Hisanori Takahashi pitched into the sixth but didn't record an out in that inning before leaving after Ryan Zimmerman's three-run homer. Takahashi (7-3) allowed the three runs on five hits and matched a season-high with seven strikeouts.

After Zimmerman's homer, the Nationals loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but Elmer Dessens struck out Adam Kennedy and got Wil Nieves to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Ike Davis hit a two-run homer in the third for the Mets, who also got two hits apiece from David Wright and Rod Barajas and an RBI double from Jeff Francoeur.

Zimmerman added an RBI single in the seventh and Nieves had an RBI single in the eighth for Washington.
