David Wright drove in four runs to lead an offensive outburst and the New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals, 10-7, despite losing starting pitcher John Maine after only five pitches on Thursday.

The Mets pounded out 15 hits and they needed all the offense they could get to help an overtaxed bullpen. Raul Valdes (2-1) threw five innings in relief of Maine for the win. Valdes allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out six.

Maine faced only one batter, walking Nyjer Morgan on five pitches before Mets coaches and trainers visited the mound and he was lifted. Maine, who has dealt with shoulder issues, appeared to argue with manager Jerry Manuel that he didn't need to come out of the game and the discussion spilled over into the dugout.

A day after getting the night off, Wright broke out of a 3-for-25 slump in a big way. He laced a three-run double in the first and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Mets roughed up rookie Luis Atilano (3-1) for seven runs -- six earned -- on nine hits, chasing him with one out in the fifth. Atilano threw five scoreless innings to beat the Mets on May 10.

Mets catcher Rod Barajas hit his 10th homer of the season, a two-run shot off Tyler Walker in the sixth. Jason Bay and Ike Davis added three hits apiece for the Mets and Davis scored three runs. Jeff Francouer went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
