Corey's Hart's two-run homer in the ninth inning broke up a classic pitchers' duel and gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 2-0 win over the New York Mets on Friday night.
The game featured masterful performances by Yovani Gallardo and Johan Santana, with Gallardo (5-2) getting the upper-hand. The right-hander pitched a complete game shutout, giving up eight hits and striking out seven.
Santana held the Brewers to three hits, struck out five and walked two in eight innings, but ended up with a no-decision.
Santana was pulled after throwing 105 pitches and was relieved by Pedro Feliciano, who retired leadoff hitter Prince Fielder on one pitch before Ryota Igarashi (0-1) came on and allowed Ryan Braun's infield hit.
After Casey McGehee popped up. Hart drove a 1-1 pitch to left, giving the Brewers the victory and ending the Mets' five-game winning streak. New York had thrown three straight shutouts in sweeping Philadelphia coming into the series.
Santana gave up Casey McGehee's leadoff double in the second, Prince Fielder's two-out single in the third and Gallardo's one-out single in the fifth.
Gallardo worked out of trouble in the ninth when Jason Bay singled with one out. After David Wright drew a two-out walk, Gallardo struck out Angel Pagan looking to end it.
