Mike Pelfrey threw eight innings of shutout ball to push the New York Mets to a 2-1 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night.
Pelfrey (13-7) allowed six hits while walking two and striking out four.
David Wright lifted a sacrifice fly in the first and Ruben Tejada drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to supply the offense. The Mets' three hits were the fewest they've managed in a win this season.
Bobby Parnell came on in the ninth to replace Pelfrey but ended up allowing hits to Carlos Lee and Chris Johnson to make things interesting. Hisanori Takahashi entered and promptly allowed an RBI single to pinch-hitter Jason Michaels.
But he then got Angel Sanchez to pop out to short and struck out Tommy Manzella looking to pick up his second save.
Houston starter Nelson Figueroa (3-1) took the tough loss, allowing one earned run on only three hits. Figueroa walked in the second run of the game and five total batters on the night.
