Hunter Pence belted two home runs, including the go-ahead run the eighth inning to lead the Houston Astros to a 4-3 triumph over the New York Mets.

Pence plated all four of Houston’s runs, while Michael Bourn and Angel Sanchez each had two hits and scored a run as well for the Astros, who have won 10 of their last 13 home games.

Houston clung to a 3-2 lead for seven innings before David Wright led off the eighth for New York with his 18th homer of the season.

Pence restored the lead with one out in the bottom of the frame, as he deposited a 3-2 offering from Johan Santana (10-7) over the left-field wall for his 18th blast of the year and a 4-3 edge.

It was Pence's first multi-homer game of the season.

The Mets got on board in the top of the first as Jose Reyes led off with a single, moved to second on a passed ball by Jason Castro and scored on Fernando Martinez's base hit.

The lead did not last long as the Astros touched Santana for three runs in the bottom of the inning. Bourn and Sanchez opened the frame with singles before Pence belted his first long ball of the game for a 3-1 advantage.

Reyes plated a run in the second with groundout to draw New York within a run.

Mark Melancon (1-0) notched his first career win despite allowing Wright's homer in the eighth. Wilton Lopez worked around a leadoff single in the ninth for his first career major league save.

Santana surrendered four runs and nine hits in tossing his third complete game of the season. The left-hander walked one and struck out seven.
