Jonny Gomes’ grounder with the bases loaded and no out in the 12th inning scored Chris Heisey with the game-winning run to help the Cincinnati Reds snap a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park Friday night.

The Reds blew a 3-1 lead in the ninth. Homer Bailey stood to get the win after scattering five hits while striking out nine over seven innings in the contest. He allowed a third-inning home run Chris Snyder but shut down the Pirates the rest of the way.

But Francisco Cordero blew his seventh save of the season allowing four singles in the ninth as the Pirates tied the score at 3-3. Jose Tabata’s RBI single made it 3-2 and Pedro Alvarez followed two batters later with the game-tying single to score Tabata.

The Reds scored three times with two outs in the third inning. Scott Rolen, Dana Stubbs and Paul Janish had RBIs.

Heisey led off the 12th with a bunt single. Joey Votto was hit by a pitch and Jonny Gomes followed with a single to load the bases.

Gomes’s soft grounder scored Heisey from third base.

Jordan Smith (3-2) got the final two outs of the 12th for the win. Wil Ledezma (0-2) took the loss.

The Reds, which lost the final five games of their recent road trip, have won five straight at home.
