Hisanori Takahashi tossed six shutout innings and the New York Mets ran their winning streak to eight games with a 4-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday.

Takahashi (6-2) held the Yankees to four hits and two walks to win his second consecutive start. Four relievers finished off the Mets' ninth shutout of the season, including Francisco Rodriguez, who got the last two outs to earn his 16th save in 19 opportunities.

Ike Davis put the Mets ahead with an RBI single in the first, but that was all the Mets managed against Yankees starter Javier Vazquez (6-6). The right-hander allowed three hits and three walks over seven innings and was tagged with the loss.

Angel Pagan gave the Mets some cushion with a two-run double in the eighth and Jose Reyes added an RBI single in the ninth as they have taken three of four from their cross-town rivals this season.

Nick Swisher and Francisco Cervelli each had a pair of hits as the Yankees managed eight in the losing effort.
