Derek Jeter hit a solo home run in the sixth inning as the New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 1-0 on Wednesday in the conclusion of their suspended game.

Jeter came up as the first batter in the resumed game and promptly swatted a one-out homer to left-center field for the only offense of the contest. It was Jeter's fifth home run of the season, but just his first since Apr. 30.

A.J. Burnett (5-2) earned the victory without throwing a single pitch Wednesday. Burnett threw five scoreless innings prior to Tuesday's rain delay and three New York relievers tossed four scoreless innings to preserve the lead.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth, walking Jim Thome before inducing a game-ending double play for his ninth save of the season and the 535th of his career.

Brian Duensing (2-1) absorbed the loss after allowing Jeter's homer. Duensing was solid otherwise, surrendering just two hits in three innings while striking out two. He came on in relief of Scott Baker, who tossed five strong innings a day earlier.

Denard Span was the offensive star for Minnesota with three hits and two stolen bases, but had the double-play groundout that ended the game.
