Brandon Crawford and Evan Longoria homered, and Andrew Suarez allowed two runs on four hits over 7 2/3 innings Monday night as the San Francisco Giants opened a three-game series in San Diego with a 4-2 win over the Padres.

Despite the victory -- in which the Giants scored four runs in a game for the first time in 12 games dating to Sept. 3 -- San Francisco (71-80) was officially eliminated in the National League West.

Suarez (7-11) threw only 87 pitches and finished with three walks and four strikeouts. Will Smith pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 13th save.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead when Austin Hedges led off the second inning with his 14th homer of the season -- a 391-foot drive that hit off the second-deck facade in left.

Crawford tied the score when he opened the fourth with a 405-foot homer on a 2-0 fastball from Padres starter Bryan Mitchell. It was Crawford's 13th homer of the season.

The Giants took the lead for good later in the inning as Chris Shaw (3-for-3) doubled and scored on Aramis Garcia's two-out single to left.

San Francisco scored two more against Mitchell in the top of the fifth. Gregor Blanco singled to open the inning and stole second. He came around on Longoria's 16th homer of the season -- a 364-foot liner off the second-deck balcony of the Western Metal Supply Co. building down the line in left.

The Padres mounted a rally in the eighth. Suarez departed after issuing a leadoff walk and retiring the next two hitters. Mark Melancon came in and walked Franmil Reyes ahead of a line-drive RBI single by Hunter Renfroe. Tony Watson relieved Melancon and retired Eric Hosmer on a comebacker.

Mitchell (1-4) gave up four runs on nine hits in five innings. He struck out four without issuing a walk.
