Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon each hit two-run homers to power the visiting Washington Nationals to a 6-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon at SunTrust Park.

Harper (2-for-3, two walks) and Rendon (3-for-4, one walk) combined to score five runs and drive in four more as Washington (76-74) won its second straight over the Braves and improved to 6-2 in its last eight games.

Tanner Roark (9-15) allowed two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings for his first win since Aug. 16, snapping a five-start winless streak that included three losses. Sean Doolittle pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his 24th save.

Tyler Flowers and Charlie Culberson each homered for Atlanta (83-66) which saw its magic number to clinch the NL East stay at eight, thanks to Miami's 6-4 win at Philadelphia. Sean Newcomb (12-9) lost for the fourth time in five starts, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in just three innings. He struck out three.

Newcomb, who fell to 0-4 with a 11.32 ERA in five home starts since coming within an out of throwing a no-hitter against the Dodgers on July 29, gave up three runs in the first highlighted by a two-run, 430-foot homer to center by Harper that drove in Trea Turner, who had walked. The Nationals made it 3-0 on a fielder's choice by Ryan Zimmerman, driving in Rendon, who had walked and advanced to third on a single by Juan Soto.

Rendon, who earlier extended his streak to reaching base safely to a team-best 25 in a row, then made it 5-0 with his 20th home run on the season in the third, driving in Harper, who had walked. The opposite-field drive just went inside the right field foul pole.

Atlanta cut it to 5-2 in the fourth when Ender Inciarte walked and scored on Flowers' seventh home run of the season down the left field line.

Culberson hit his 12th homer of the season to left-center in the eighth off reliever Greg Holland, driving in Nick Markakis, who had singled, to cut it to 5-4.

The Nationals added an insurance run in the ninth with three consecutive two-out singles by Harper, Rendon and Soto off reliever Brad Brach.
