PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks are playing some of their best baseball of the season, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, baseball's best team, are feeling the effects.

Paul Goldschmidt, Adam Rosales and Chris Herrmann homered, and left-hander Robbie Ray struck out 10 as the Diamondbacks won their sixth straight with a 6-4 victory over Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday at Chase Field.

The Dodgers lost their season-high fourth consecutive game, and they lost a second straight series for the first time this season. They enter the finale of the three-game series on Thursday looking to avoid getting swept for the first time.

"We know we can pitch," Ray said. "We know we can hit. We know we can hang with any team in this league. We've done what we need to the last two games, and we're just coming to come out tomorrow and do what we have to."

Rosales and Goldschmidt homered in a three-run first inning, and Ray gave up one run in 6 2/3 innings in his first home start since July 23. He missed 26 days after being struck in the head by a line drive July 28.

Herrmann and Ray had two hits apiece, and every starter had at least one hit for the Diamondbacks (75-58). Arizona moved three games ahead of the Colorado Rockies in the race for the top National League wild card.

Curtis Granderson homered for the Dodgers (91-40), who still lead the second-place Diamondbacks by 17 games in the NL West. Los Angeles will send Kenta Maeda to the mound to face Zack Greinke on Thursday.

"Up until this time we have played very good baseball and had guys step up and be the stopper," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "So, yes, uncharted territory for this ballclub this year.

"It is one thing where you are beating yourself and another thing where this team over there has some momentum. They are playing well. They have some energy and they are getting good pitching. We haven't quit. We haven't laid down. We would rather take it now than the end of September."

The Dodgers trailed 6-0 before Granderson's solo shot in the seventh. Los Angeles scored three runs in the eighth inning to cut it to 6-4 on a two-run single by Yasiel Puig off Andrew Chafin and a bases-loaded walk to Granderson by Archie Bradley.

Bradley recovered to strike out Chase Utley and get pinch hitter Corey Seager on a groundout to leave the bases loaded.

Fernando Rodney pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 34th save, his seventh save in nine games and 10 days.

Arizona is 44-23 at home, the second-best mark in the majors behind the Dodgers (52-16).

"It's something I've asked these guys since Day 1, to go out and earn the respect of the league and protect home field," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "For us to play that well against the team that is pacing the entire league should tell people about what we have sitting in that clubhouse."

Ray (11-5) gave up four hits and two walks while lowering his ERA to 2.97, which would be fifth in the league. He is three innings short of qualifying.

Rosales homered with one out in the first inning off Hyun-Jin Ryu (5-7). Pollock walked and Goldschmidt followed with his 33rd homer of the season, his third in as many games.

Arizona scored eight runs in the first inning of the first two games of the series. Pollock homered in the five-run first inning of a 7-6 victory Tuesday.

Herrmann homered to lead off the two-run fourth inning that expanded Arizona's advance to 6-0.

Ryu gave up eight hits and six runs in four innings while taking his first loss since June 5. He struck out two and walked three. He had been 3-0 with seven no-decisions in his previous 10 starts.

NOTES: 1B Cody Bellinger was 1-for-4 with a single and was hit by a pitch in his return from the disabled list. Bellinger was activated after spending 10 days on the disabled list with a high ankle sprain. Los Angeles optioned INF Kyle Farmer to Triple-A Oklahoma City. ... Dodgers RHP Brock Stewart will be recalled when rosters expand Friday and is to start the first game of a Saturday doubleheader against the San Diego Padres, manager Dave Roberts said. RHP Yu Darvish already had been announced as the starter in the second game. ... Arizona RHP Zack Greinke will face his former team in the series finale Thursday. Greinke is 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA in two starts against the Dodgers this season and 1-4 with a 5.83 ERA in five starts vs. Los Angeles since joining the Diamondbacks before the 2016 season.
