NEW YORK -- Jose Ramirez went 4-for-4 and Trevor Bauer won his career-high seventh straight decision as the Cleveland Indians scored twice in the opening inning and edged the New York Yankees 2-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

Ramirez singled in his first at-bat and scored on Yandy Diaz's single. He then doubled in the third, singled in the fifth and doubled in the eighth.

It was his third four-hit game of the season and sixth career.

Bauer (14-8) allowed one run and four hits in six innings. He struck out four and worked around four walks and two wild pitches.

Three relievers combined on three scoreless innings as the Indians won their sixth straight and improved to 15-4 in their last 19 games. Cody Allen recorded the final four outs for his 22nd save in 25 opportunities by striking out pinch hitter Aaron Judge swinging on a 93 mph fastball.

Didi Gregorius hit an RBI double for the Yankees, who are 2-4 against the Indians this season.

New York left-hander Jaime Garcia (1-2) allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits in five-plus innings.

The Indians quickly took a 2-0 lead as three of the first four hitters reached base.

Francisco Lindor opened the game with a single, stole second, took third on a single by Ramirez and scored on a passed ball by Gary Sanchez. Ramirez scored two pitches later.

Bauer threw two wild pitches in the third and the Yankees scored their first run on a double to left by Gregorius. Bauer kept the lead by striking out Chase Headley after his second wild pitch.

NOTES: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said RF Aaron Judge and 2B Starlin Castro would "absolutely" be in the starting lineup for the second game. Judge was getting a second straight game off to rest while Girardi did not want to push Castro by starting him two games after he ended his second disabled list stint Friday. Both players were pinch hitters in the ninth. ... LHP Jordan Montgomery will serve as New York's 26th man for the second game while RHP Shawn Armstrong will fill the same role for Cleveland. ... The Indians recalled LHP Ryan Merritt from Triple-A Columbus and placed RHP Dan Otero on the paternity list. ... Cleveland OF Jay Bruce announced Tuesday that he and his wife will match up to $100,000 in donations to the team's charity through Sept. 10 in support of relief for Hurricane Harvey. Manager Terry Francona said he wouldn't be surprised if the team did something similar.
