SAN FRANCISCO -- Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was coming off one of the best games of his life when he faced the San Francisco Giants and ace Madison Bumgarner on Friday at AT&T Park.

Goldschmidt hit a career-high three home runs and drove in a career high-matching six runs Thursday night in a 10-8 victory against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, a marathon back-and-forth game with multiple rain delays.

You couldn't have blamed Goldschmidt if he had a letdown against the Giants. But that's an option he refused to consider.

Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, leading the Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory.

"Three hits, two RBIs," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "He's the right guy in the right spot. Every hitter, every player looks for runs like that. He's locked in doing his job. Without him, we don't win this game."

Goldschmidt stayed hot and helped rookie left-hander Anthony Banda get his first major league win. Banda (1-1) allowed one run and three hits in six innings in his second major league start. He was called up from Triple-A Reno and started in place of Robbie Ray, who's on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion. Banda struck out seven, walked four and threw 92 pitches.

"It's phenomenal," Banda said. "It's only like the greatest feeling in the world, obviously. I'm not going to lie. To get the first one out of the way as far as wins, it's a great feeling, but overall the better feeling is the overall effort. It's a team win. We're trying to strive for bigger and better goals as far as that goes."

Arizona (63-46) maintained its hold on the top wild-card playoff spot in the National League, one-half game ahead of Colorado, which hold the second spot, 5 1/2 games ahead of Milwaukee.

Bumgarner (1-5) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings in his fifth start since returning from the disabled list. He struck out seven, walked two and threw 104 pitches.

The Diamondbacks snapped a 1-1 tie with a run in sixth inning. David Peralta lined a leadoff double down the right-field line and Goldschmidt drove him in with a single off the left-field fence that just missed going over.

Goldschmidt, who's batting .325 with 25 home runs and 87 RBIs, had an infield single in the second inning and an RBI triple in the fourth.

"I know he's hot right now," Bumgarner said. "He pretty much been hot all year. There's been some times where he's had success off me and vice versa where I feel like I've had success off of him. We went after him, pitched to him. I tried to make pitches. A couple of them not so great. Some of them were good, but when a guy's hot there's not much you can do."

Goldschmidt said that the thought of facing Bumgarner helped him and his teammates stay focused Friday.

"We were facing Bumgarner, one of the best pitchers in the game," Goldschmidt said. "It's probably a game you could have that letdown game, but there was a lot of focus I saw before the game and during the game as well."

After Banda exited, Jorge De La Rosa pitched a perfect seventh with two strikeouts, David Hernandez a perfect eighth and closer Fernando Rodney a perfect ninth for his 25th save.

Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was hit in the head with a pitch leading off the sixth inning and left the game. On a 2-1 count, Banda hit Belt with a 79 mph curveball. Belt turned away from the high pitch and was struck in the helmet. He walked off the field under his own power after being examined by Giants trainer Dave Groeschner.

San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said Belt has concussion symptoms and will be further evaluated Saturday. He has had two previous concussions in the major leagues and one during college.

"This is probably scaring him a little bit because he's been through this," Bochy said.

Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a run off Bumgarner. A.J. Pollock singled to left with one out and Goldschmidt brought him home with a triple to right-center field.

The Giants pulled even with a run in the fourth but left the bases loaded. Kelby Tomlinson led off with a bunt single, San Francisco's first hit off Banda, and moved to second on Brandon Belt's sacrifice bunt.

Banda walked Buster Posey, and Hunter Pence lined a single up the middle, loading the bases. Banda was able to get his glove on the ball, keeping it in the infield. Banda walked Brandon Crawford, forcing home a run, but he struck out Gorkys Hernandez and retired Ryder Jones on a ground ball.

"I think the part of the game that impressed me the most was that particular inning where things got away from him a little bit, and he was spraying his fastball around and walked the run in, but he did enough to get out of the inning," Lovullo said.

NOTES: Diamondbacks LHP Robbie Ray (concussion) was cleared for baseball activities Thursday by his doctor, six days after being hit in on the left side of his head with a line drive during a game against St. Louis. Ray, who's on the seven-day disabled list, played long catch and did some lower leg exercises. ... Arizona INF Ketel Martel was reinstated from the bereavement list. He had been in the Dominican Republic after the death of his mother in a car crash. ... Diamondbacks INF Jack Reinheimer and RHP Rubby De La Rosa were optioned to Triple-A Reno. ... Giants RHP Mark Melancon (right pronator strain) made his third rehab appearance Friday night for Class A San Jose and gave up four runs and four hits, including a home run, in two-thirds of an inning. Melancon, the Giants' closer, started the game and was scheduled to pitch one inning, but he exited during the first inning after throwing 22 pitches.
