MIAMI -- On a night in which just about everything went right for the Miami Marlins, right fielder Giancarlo Stanton punctuated a 7-0 win over the Washington Nationals with a sensational catch.

Stanton, who lost his glove over the fence while banging into the wall once this year and also just missed on a few other deep drives, ran to the right field corner, jumped and stole what would have been a two-run homer by Brian Goodwin.

"It's about time," Marlins center fielder Christian Yelich said he yelled to Stanton as he ran over to offer his congratulations on the last play of the game.

Stanton, however, was far from the only hero at Marlins Park on Wednesday night.

Vance Worley pitched seven scoreless innings for his first win of the year, Yelich and Derek Dietrich each hit two-run homers, and Dee Gordon was just spectacular.

Gordon went 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two steals, three runs and one RBI. He raised his batting average to .300 and extended his hitting streak to 13 games, tying his career high.

Worley entered the game with a 0-2 record and a 6.42 ERA. He ended it with his first win since May 12, 2016, when his Baltimore Orioles beat the Detroit Tigers.

On Wednesday, he allowed just two singles and no walks, striking out three and facing the minimum.

"It was just keeping the ball down, and the defense played big behind me," said Worley, who dropped his ERA to 5.31. "Our bats came alive. It made it so I wasn't trying to throw the perfect pitch."

Worley was with the Nationals during spring training before getting released.

"We just didn't have room for him," Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "He was sharp tonight. We were topping the ball. We couldn't center it."

Yelich, who has 13 homers this season, finished with three RBIs. Dietrich hit his sixth homer.

Miami (51-55) cut Washington's lead in the NL East to 12 games by winning two of three in this series. The Nationals (63-43) have lost five of nine games against Miami this year.

The Marlins have won four consecutive series for the first time since 2015.

Washington starter A.J. Cole (1-1), who was called up from Triple-A Syracuse for the start, allowed five runs in five innings.

"I didn't make bad pitches," Cole said. "They were just right in their swing path, where you're not supposed to throw those guys."

Cole got in trouble right away. In the first inning, he used just five pitches to walk Gordon, who scored easily when the next batter, Giancarlo Stanton, doubled to right-center.

Miami extended its lead to 5-0 with a four-run fifth that featured the two-run homers by Yelich and Dietrich. The lead increased to 7-0 in the sixth on an RBI single by Gordon and a run-scoring Yelich double.

Marlins reliever Odrisamer Despaigne pitched the final two innings to complete a combined four-hitter.

Washington never seriously threatened until Goodwin's bid for a homer on the final play.

Worley, who likely will face the Nationals again next week, said he hopes the Marlins can now relax after the passing of the trade deadline.

"We've been working hard as a team, on and off the field, to make things fun in here," Worley said. "You guys know how hard it is when you are hearing about team sales and trades. And now that (the deadline) has passed, we are just having fun."
