ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Few days go by when Mike Trout doesn't join another list of all-time baseball greats.

The Los Angeles Angels center fielder hit his 20th home run of the season Wednesday night, leading the Angels to a 7-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies and logging another achievement in his still young career.

The Angels scored all seven runs in the third inning -- five of them via three home runs, by Trout, C.J. Cron (his sixth) and Kaleb Cowart (his first).

Trout's long ball, a two-run blast to center field, gave him six consecutive seasons of at least 20 homers before his age-26 season. He is one of just four American League players to do so, joining Alex Rodriguez, Tony Conigliaro and Mickey Mantle.

"It was exciting to be a part of that and get to see other guys go deep," said Trout, who turns 26 on Monday. "It's really good for the team. We're finally starting to score some runs.

"It means a lot to be mentioned with some of the all-time greats. It's not something I think about until people bring it up, but it's pretty special."

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said, "Every time Albert does something, it's great to look at the postscript of who else has done it, and now we're seeing the same thing with Mike. Knowing what else he can do in his career is fun to watch."

The seven-hit, seven-run third was the second-most runs the Angels have scored in an inning this season. They plated nine in the third inning May 30 against Atlanta. They sent 11 batters to the plate, and catcher Martin Maldonado had a pair of doubles.

The win moved the Angels (53-55) three games behind Kansas City in the race for the second AL wild-card playoff spot. Los Angeles is five games behind the New York Yankees, who hold the first wild-card position.

The Angels also recorded their 11th straight win over Philadelphia. The teams have met 12 times since interleague play began.

JC Ramirez (10-9) cruised to the win, allowing six hits and two walks in a career-high eight innings. It was the 11th start in which he allowed two earned runs or fewer.

"JC just keeps going," Scioscia said of Ramirez, a career reliever until being moved into the rotation when injuries shelved several starters. "It's really been unchartered waters.

"He added a curveball, and his confidence is really high now. It was great to get some early runs so he didn't have to worry about making a mistake. He was very efficient and kept moving through their lineup."

The Phillies mustered just six hits against the Angels, two by Cesar Hernandez. Starter Jake Thompson (1-1) was the victim of the seven-run third, which included an error by Hernandez early in the frame. He allowed nine hits and a walk in five innings, but only two of the seven runs he yielded were earned.

"We came in here flying high with five straight wins," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said, "but it was the second straight night in which we didn't swing the bat well. Besides Cesar's two hits, there wasn't much to talk about."

Mackanin said Thompson lacked command and he wouldn't commit to giving him another start.

"We'll take a look at things," the manager said.
