PHILADELPHIA -- After catching a popup for the final out of the Atlanta Braves' 7-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night, catcher A.J. Pierzynski leaped in mock celebration.

"That's the highest I've seen a 39-year-old jump before," first baseman Freddie Freeman said.

Freeman did more than his part to lift the Braves, hitting a pair of two-run homers. Nick Markakis added his first home run of the season as the team with the worst record in the National League (11-30) picked up a rare victory.

"If you let loose and feel great going up to the plate, this game is mostly mental," said Freeman, who went deep against Philadelphia starter Aaron Nola in the third inning and reliever Brett Oberholtzer in the ninth.

It was Freeman's seventh career multi-homer game and his first since June 3, 2015, at Arizona. He has hit four of his eight homers this season in four games against the Phillies.

"We've got to figure out how to pitch Freeman," Philadelphia manager Pete Mackanin said.

The Phillies, off to a surprising 24-18 start, are looking to make hay in a weekend series against the lowly Braves because their upcoming schedule is difficult.

"As I said before, they've got a good lineup," Mackanin said. "They're not a pushover by any means. On a given day, they could beat anybody. We can't take them for granted. We have to go out there and battle to win."

The Phillies, however, managed just six hits off Atlanta starter Matt Wisler (2-3) and three relievers while losing for the third time in five games.

Wisler went 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run and five hits while striking out seven and walking two. The 23-year-old right-hander has surrendered six earned runs in his last 30 innings, a four-start span that has seen him go 2-1.

Phillies starter Aaron Nola (3-3) saw his three-game winning streak halted, yielding five runs (two earned) and seven hits while striking out six and walking two.

Nola, who had not surrendered a home run in his previous five starts, gave up Markakis' two-run shot in a three-run seventh in addition to Freeman's initial blast.

Markakis' homer was his first since victimizing Miami's Jose Fernandez on Sept. 25, 2015.

"I made a couple mistakes with two outs and they made me pay for them," Nola said.

The Phillies opened the scoring on Ryan Howard's RBI groundout in the first, but Freeman launched his first two-run homer with two outs in the third, giving Atlanta a 2-1 lead. It came on a first-pitch fastball from Nola and scored Mallex Smith, who led off the inning with a bunt single.

Atlanta broke it open by scoring three unearned runs in the seventh. Smith, leading off, reached on a two-base error by Philadelphia third baseman Maikel Franco, his second miscue of the game, and moved to third on Ender Inciarte's groundout.

Gordon Beckham lined a run-scoring single to left over a drawn-in infield and Markakis, a left-handed hitter, followed with an opposite-field homer.

Freeman's second homer came one out after Inciarte drew a walk from Oberholtzer in the ninth.

Wisler allowed two baserunners in the third and sixth but managed to avoid trouble after allowing the run in the first, when he said he was "throwing across (his) body" and leaving the ball up in the strike zone.

"He got through that and then he got locked in," interim manager Brian Snitker said. "He was flowing. I love the fact he got things going and clicking. We needed someone to get deep in the game like that."

Wisler became the first Braves pitcher to post multiple victories this season. Before Friday, Atlanta had tied a major league record by having their first 10 victories by 10 different pitchers.

"I feel good," Wisler said. "My stuff feels good. I have a long way to go. I'll continue the process and go to work every day."
