NEW YORK -- Reigning National League Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom combined with three relievers on a seven-hit shutout Monday afternoon as the New York Mets edged the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 in the home opener at Citi Field.

Center fielder Juan Lagares had an RBI infield single in the fourth inning and catcher Travis d'Arnaud lofted a sacrifice fly in the eighth for the Mets (4-3), who improved to 34-20 all-time in home openers, including 4-3 at Citi Field.

The Phillies fell to 3-4.

The right-handed deGrom, who went 9-6 with a 2.69 ERA in 22 starts last season to become the first Mets player to win the Rookie of the Year since Dwight Gooden in 1984, allowed all seven hits and one walk while striking out three over a tidy 99-pitch outing.

DeGrom helped his cause in the fifth, when, with two on and one out, he fielded a bunt by opposing right-handed pitcher Aaron Harang before whirling and firing to third to force the lead runner, third baseman Cody Asche.

In the seventh, Asche (2-for-4) and shortstop Freddy Galvis (3-for-3) chased deGrom with consecutive singles, but right-hander Carlos Torres and left-hander Jerry Blevins retired five straight batters to serve as the bridge to right-hander Jeurys Familia, who worked around a leadoff walk for his second save.

D'Arnaud and second baseman Daniel Murphy factored into both run-scoring innings by the Mets. In the fourth, Murphy doubled with one out, advanced to third on a fly out by d'Arnaud and scored when Lagares beat out a comebacker to Harang.

In the eighth, left fielder Michael Cuddyer singled with one out, went to third when Murphy's grounder skipped under the legs of second baseman Chase Utley and came home on d'Arnaud's fly to left.

Harang took the hard-luck loss after allowing the one run on four hits and two walks while striking out one over six innings.
