Athletics 5, Giants 0: Jesse Chavez matched a career high with nine strikeouts over six dominant innings and Alberto Callaspo delivered a two-run double as host Oakland downed San Francisco for its fifth straight win.

Chavez posted his first win in four starts and improved to 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA in eight home outings after holding the Giants to four singles and a pair of walks. John Jaso, Brandon Moss and Josh Donaldson drove in a run apiece for the Athletics, who improved to 8-1 in interleague action.

Ryan Vogelsong (5-6) dropped his third straight turn after he was charged with three runs on five hits over 5 1/3 frames. Joaquin Arias stole his first base of the season and finished with two of the Giants’ five hits.

Chavez and Vogelsong traded zeroes through four innings before Oakland broke though in the fifth when Craig Gentry was hit by a pitch to open the inning, stole second, advanced to third on a bunt single by Coco Crisp and came across on Jaso’s RBI groundout. Vogelsong also hit Donaldson with a pitch to begin the sixth and, following a single by Jed Lowrie, Callaspo greeted Juan Gutierrez with a line drive to the gap in right-center.

The Athletics tacked on a couple of unearned runs in the seventh as Jaso and Yoenis Cespedes each reached and moved into scoring position following a pair of throwing errors by San Francisco shortstop Brandon Crawford. Moss followed with a sacrifice fly and Donaldson ripped a liner up the middle to plate the final run to close the book on Gutierrez.

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Francisco leadoff hitter Hunter Pence went 0-for-3 with a walk, ending his 11-game hitting streak. … Oakland posted its ninth shutout of the season and hasn’t yielded more than two runs in any contest during its winning streak. … The Giants have been blanked three times with Vogelsong on the mound and scored three or fewer runs in 11 of his 18 outings.
