Giants 3, Phillies 1: Hunter Pence delivered a three-run double in the top of the ninth in support of Madison Bumgarner's eight scoreless innings as visiting San Francisco topped Philadelphia for a third straight night.

The former Phillie's decisive hit made a winner of Bumgarner (12-7), who gave up five hits without a walk and struck out six. Bumgarner faced runners on second and third with one out in the eighth but recovered to get Andres Blanco on a strikeout and Grady Sizemore on a fly ball to preserve the scoreless tie.

Shortly thereafter, Jonathan Papelbon (2-2) hit Michael Morse with a pitch to open the ninth and walked a pair of hitters with two outs before Pence sent a blooper just inside the right-field line. Santiago Casilla came on in the bottom half of the frame and allowed an RBI single to Marlon Byrd before slamming the door for his seventh save.

Philadelphia starter A.J. Burnett threw 131 pitches - one shy of his career high - over eight innings, allowing four singles and four walks while striking out six. The Phillies have lost seven of eight while the Giants, who will go for the sweep on Thursday afternoon, have won six of seven to move two games up on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Early on, the Philadelphia defense preserved the scoreless tie with two quality defensive plays. Blanco made a diving play at third base that likely saved a run in the third, while right fielder Byrd made a nice running catch in the gap with two runners on in the fifth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The game was delayed for 59 minutes due to rain in the fourth inning. ... Phillies C Carlos Ruiz, who was activated from the seven-day concussion disabled list earlier in the day, went 2-for-3 with a double. ... Pence finished 1-for-4, ending his streak of four straight multi-hit games.
