Mariners 5, Mets 2: All-Star Kyle Seager recorded a pair of RBI singles while Willie Bloomquist went 3-for-5, scored twice and drove in a run as host Seattle claimed the opener of the three-game series.

Mike Zunino homered while Dustin Ackley collected three hits and an RBI for the Mariners, who had lost six of nine. Rookie Roenis Elias (8-8) snapped his three-start losing streak, allowing one run and five hits while striking out eight in 5 1/3 innings before exiting with a cramp in his left forearm.

David Wright recorded two hits and an RBI on the 10th anniversary of his major-league debut with the Mets, who fell to 2-8 all-time against Seattle and 0-4 at Safeco Field. Jon Niese (5-5) returned from the disabled list and was reached for four runs and 11 hits over six frames in his first start since July 4.

Seattle got to Niese for a run in the first inning as Bloomquist led off with a single, stole second and scored on Seager's two-out single. New York answered in the third with an RBI base hit by Wright, but the Mariners quickly regained the lead as Zunino led off the bottom half by depositing Niese's first pitch over the wall in left field for his 14th blast.

Bloomquist followed with a single and scored on Seager's base hit three batters later before smacking an RBI ground-rule double in the fourth that plated Corey Hart for a 4-1 advantage. Ackley, who robbed Travis d'Arnaud of a home run in the sixth with a leaping catch at the wall in left, capped the scoring for Seattle in the eighth with an RBI double.
