Phillies 3, Brewers 2: Cole Hamels ended a five-start winless streak with 6 2/3 solid innings and Chase Utley hit a two-run homer as visiting Philadelphia snapped a six-game losing streak against Milwaukee.

Hamels (3-5) collected his first victory since June 6, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out seven, and Jonathan Papelbon worked a perfect ninth inning for his 20th save. Utley scored twice and joined Ben Revere with two hits apiece while Ryan Howard drove in the other run for the Phillies, who won for only the fourth time in their last 17 contests.

Marco Estrada (7-6) suffered his second straight loss after yielding three runs on six hits – including his league-high 27th home run – over five frames. Jeff Bianchi knocked in a pair of runs with a pinch-hit single while Khris Davis and Mark Reynolds each singled and scored for the Brewers, who have dropped six of seven.

Revere led off the game with a single to center and Utley lifted a 0-1 fastball just out of the reach of Ryan Braun in right and into the Phillies’ bullpen. Philadelphia stretched the gap to 3-0 in the third when Utley singled with two outs and raced home moments later on a hit-and-run play as Howard singled to deep right-center.

Hamels, who allowed the leadoff hitter to reach base in every inning from the second to the fifth, saw Milwaukee load the bases with no outs in the fifth thanks to two singles and an error before Bianchi stroked his two-run hit to shallow right. Ken Giles inherited a pair of runners on first and second from Hamels in the seventh, but retired Rickie Weeks on a flyout to end the threat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Braun, who sat out Sunday’s series-finale loss against the Cincinnati Reds due to back spasms, returned to the lineup on Monday and went 2-for-4. … Estrada has surrendered eight more home runs than any other pitcher and at least one in 16 of his 18 starts. … Logan Schafer, who came on as a pinch runner after Braun doubled to lead off the eighth, likely cost the Brewers a chance to tie the game when he was thrown out at third with no outs on Jonathan Lucroy’s hard-hit fielder’s choice grounder to short.
