Brewers 8, Pirates 7: Ryan Braun smacked a solo home run in the seventh and a go-ahead, two-run shot in the ninth as visiting Milwaukee nipped Pittsburgh.

Braun, who finished 3-for-5 with four runs scored, brought Milwaukee within 7-6 against reliever Tony Watson before drilling a first-ball fastball from Jason Grilli (0-1) over the center-field wall with one out in the ninth, one batter after Jean Segura singled against the Pittsburgh closer. Mark Reynolds also homered for the Brewers while Jonathan Lucroy notched three hits and two RBIs.

Ike Davis, who was acquired from the New York Mets on Friday, batted sixth and was one of three Pirates with two hits, joining Starling Marte and Jose Tabata. Clint Barmes and Travis Snider each drove in two runs for Pittsburgh.

The Brewers scored in six different innings, including Reynolds' fourth-inning solo shot that created a 4-1 advantage. The Pirates quickly answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame, capped by Snider's two-run single.

Andrew McCutchen's RBI double pushed the Pittsburgh advantage to 7-5 in the sixth, but Braun drew Milwaukee within a run with a line-drive shot over the left-center field wall. His ninth-inning blast came on a fastball from Grilli before Felix Rodriguez worked the ninth to record his sixth save, preserving the win for Jim Henderson (2-0), who logged a scoreless eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Segura got caught in a rundown between second and third in the third inning but avoided the tag with a spin move and was safe at second base. The Brewers went on to score two runs in the frame on Aramis Ramirez's RBI single and Lucroy's run-scoring double. ... Braun had not homered since hitting three against Philadelphia on April 8. This was his 20th career multi-homer game. ... Neither starter had a memorable evening, as Milwaukee's Matt Garza allowed six runs over five innings while Wandy Rodriguez of Pittsburgh surrendered four runs in four frames.
