Marlins 7, Nationals 6: Jeff Baker singled home the winning run with two outs as Miami scored four times in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat visiting Washington in the opener of their three-game series.

Marcell Ozuna delivered an RBI single, Jarrod Saltalamacchia lifted a sacrifice fly and Adeiny Hechavarria tripled in the tying run off Rafael Soriano (2-1), who blew his fourth save opportunity of the season. Three batters later, Baker drilled a pitch from Jerry Blevins off the left-field fence as the Marlins rallied from six runs down to win for the eighth time in nine games.

Ozuna recorded two hits and two RBIs while Garrett Jones doubled, tripled and drove in a run for the Marlins, who saw Mike Dunn (8-5) toss a scoreless top of the ninth. Anthony Rendon collected two singles and scored twice while Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper each recorded two hits and an RBI for the Nationals.

Adam LaRoche’s sacrifice fly in the first inning gave the Nationals a lead and consecutive singles by Denard Span, Rendon and Werth pushed across the first of five runs in the sixth. Rendon scored on an error, Wilson Ramos drew a bases-loaded walk from Dan Jennings and Danny Espinosa added a two-run single up the middle to make it 6-0.

Miami's comeback spoiled a solid performance by Washington All-Star Jordan Zimmermann, who allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six in seven innings. Jones stroked a two-out RBI triple and scored on Ozuna’s infield single in the seventh before Baker’s RBI groundout in the eighth drew the Marlins within three.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Werth, who has knocked in 11 runs in nine games against the Marlins this season, left the game in the seventh with an apparent leg injury. … Miami RHP Nathan Eovaldi yielded five runs on six hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings as his winless streak reached six games. … The Marlins recalled OF Jake Marisnick from Triple-A New Orleans and optioned C J.T. Realmuto to Double-A Jacksonville. Marisnick struck out as a pinch hitter in the sixth.
