Marlins 11, Nationals 2: Tom Koehler allowed one hit over seven shutout innings and Giancarlo Stanton homered and drove in five runs as host Miami halted an eight-game losing streak.
Koehler (2-1) held Washington hitless after allowing Anthony Rendon's single to lead off the game, working around five walks while fanning three to lower his ERA to 1.89. Marcell Ozuna went 4-for-5 and scored three times while Casey McGehee added three hits and a pair of RBIs.
Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg (1-2) looked nothing like the pitcher that struck out 12 Marlins in his previous start five days earlier. The hard-throwing right-hander was tagged for six runs on eight hits over four innings, walking three and striking out five.
Miami surged out to a 3-0 lead as Christian Yelich and Ozuna led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles and came around to score on Stanton's blast over the center-field fence. The Marlins tacked on three more runs in the second on Ozuna's RBI infield hit and McGehee's two-run single to left.
Craig Stammen's throwing error on Koehler's sacrifice bunt brought home two more runs in the fifth, Stanton made it 10-0 with a two-run double to left and Garrett Jones cashed him in with a base hit to cap the five-run frame. The Nationals finally scored in the eighth as Steven Souza Jr. singled up the middle for his first major-league hit and Bryce Harper subsequently scored on Ozuna's throwing error, and Zach Walters added a solo shot - the first of his career - in the ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Both benches cleared in the fourth inning after a Koehler pitch nearly hit Nationals SS Ian Desmond, leading to a heated exchange between Desmond and Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Desmond flew out to center field to end the at-bat. ... The win was Miami's first in eight tries against an NL East opponent. ... Stanton leads the majors with 21 RBIs in 15 games.
