Phillies 4, Marlins 3: Chase Utley homered in the eighth inning to propel Philadelphia to a home win over Miami, which has lost seven straight games following a 5-1 start.

Utley slammed a 1-0 slider from Mike Dunn (0-1) over the right-field wall for his third home run, and Jonathan Papelbon closed it out to wrap up a three-game sweep. With Ben Revere and Carlos Ruiz getting the afternoon off, fill-in starters Tony Gwynn Jr. and Wil Nieves each contributed three hits for the Phillies while Utley also had three hits to raise his average to .500.

Casey McGehee drove in a run and went 2-for-4 while Garrett Jones homered for Miami. Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision, as the Phillies' Kyle Kendrick and the Marlins' Henderson Alvarez each allowed three runs in six innings.

Philadelphia put two runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but was unable to plate the go-ahead run until Utley's home run, which made a winner of Antonio Bastardo (1-1). Papelbon set the side down 1-2-3 in the ninth for his third save, capping off a terrific performance by the Phillies' bullpen, which retired all nine batters it faced.

The Marlins scored a run in the first and second innings before Ryan Howard's second homer of the season sliced the deficit in half one frame later. Miami got that run back when Jones homered against Kendrick in the fifth, but Philadelphia tied things up in the bottom half on Nieves' two-run double to right.

GAME NOTEBOOK: . After hitting two home runs as part of a 3-for-5 performance on Saturday, Miami RF Giancarlo Stanton went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Sunday. ...
