Giants 2, Dodgers 1: Pablo Sandoval delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh and Ryan Vogelsong threw six-plus innings as San Francisco edged visiting Los Angeles.

Vogelsong worked past the fifth inning for the first time in three starts and yielded one run on four hits before allowing the first two batters in the seventh to reach base. Jean Machi (3-0) escaped the jam by inducing an inning-ending double play from Juan Uribe, and Sergio Romo worked a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

The Giants pulled ahead in the bottom half of the seventh when J.P. Howell (1-1) issued a leadoff walk to Joaquin Arias and intentionally walked Hunter Pence to face Sandoval with Arias at second. Sandoval was 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position this season before scoring Arias with a single up the middle.

The Giants took an early lead in the third when Buster Posey snapped an 0-for-13 skid with a run-scoring single, and Vogelsong retired 10 straight before Paul Maholm drew a two-out walk in the sixth and scored on Dee Gordon’s triple into the right-center field gap. Gordon went 3-for-4 and has hit safely in 10 of his first 13 games.

Maholm yielded one run on five hits over six frames for Los Angeles, which received a scare in the seventh inning when shortstop Hanley Ramirez exited the game after being hit on the left hand on a 3-2 pitch from Vogelsong. The Dodgers later announced that X-rays were negative, and Ramirez is listed as day-to-day.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Giants activated LHP Jeremy Affeldt from the 15-day disabled list and optioned OF Juan Perez to Triple-A Fresno. … San Francisco SS Brandon Crawford sat out with a tight right hamstring and is listed as day-to-day. … Sandoval went 2-for-4 for the Giants, who have won nine of the last 11 games against the Dodgers dating back to last season.
