Tigers 6, Angels 4: All-Star Ian Kinsler and Nick Castellanos drove in two runs apiece as visiting Detroit claimed the opener of the four-game series.

Austin Jackson collected two hits and an RBI while Torii Hunter also plated a run for the Tigers, who have won four of five. All-Star Max Scherzer (12-3) allowed three runs and six hits while striking out 11 over seven innings to win his fourth straight decision and Joe Nathan struck out the side in the ninth for his 21st save.

Kole Calhoun recorded two hits and two RBIs while C.J. Cron and Josh Hamilton each drove in a run for the Angels, who have lost four of their last six contests. Garrett Richards (11-3) had his seven-game winning streak snapped after surrendering four runs and seven hits in six frames.

Detroit opened the scoring in the third inning on Kinsler's RBI groundout, but Los Angeles moved ahead with a three-run fifth. Howie Kendrick scored on Cron's infield single after leading off with a double and Calhoun added a two-run base hit two batters later to 3-1.

The Tigers answered with a three-run rally of their own in the sixth as Hunter delivered an RBI double and Castellanos followed with a two-run, two-base hit. Kinsler plated a run in the seventh with a double and Jackson added an RBI single an inning later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Tigers improved to a major league-best 31-17 on the road. ...
