Nationals 4, Reds 2: Doug Fister allowed only three hits over seven scoreless innings to win his fifth straight decision as visiting Washington took two out of three games from Cincinnati.

Adam LaRoche delivered a two-run single while Jayson Werth and Anthony Rendon each added an RBI for the Nationals, who have won six of their last eight games. Fister (10-2) walked one and struck out five before Rafael Soriano notched his 200th career save and 25th of the season by getting the final three outs.

Devin Mesoraco belted a two-run double in the ninth inning and joined Todd Frazier with a pair of hits for Cincinnati, which is 1-8 since the All-Star break. Reds starter Mat Latos (2-3) yielded three runs – all in the fifth – on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts over six innings to suffer the loss.

Danny Espinosa singled for Washington’s first hit to start the fifth and Latos retired the next two batters before running into trouble. Denard Span walked, Latos hit Rendon with a pitch and Werth worked a walk after being down 0-2 to knock in one before LaRoche sliced a two-run single to left for a 3-0 lead.

Fister retired 12 straight batters before Skip Schumaker’s two-out single in the sixth, but he was stranded when Rendon dove to stop Frazier’s grounder and turned it into a fielder’s choice. Rendon later singled home an insurance run in the ninth with two outs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Span walked four times and scored a run Sunday after the game was delayed 15 minutes by rain and finished 5-for-10 in the series. … The Reds optioned RHP Curtis Partch to Triple-A Louisville to make room for INF Jack Hannahan (shoulder surgery), who returned from the disabled list for the first time this season and went 0-for-4. … Cincinnati hosts Arizona to start a three-game series and the Nationals visit Miami to begin a three-game set on Monday.
