Brewers 5, Reds 1: Mark Reynolds went 3-for-4 and homered twice and Kyle Lohse pitched 6 2/3 solid innings as host Milwaukee completed a three-game sweep of Cincinnati.
Carlos Gomez added a run-scoring triple and scored on Ryan Braun’s infield hit as the Brewers won for the fifth time in seven games. The Reds are 0-6 – all on the road – since resuming play after the All-Star break.
Lohse (11-4) gave up one run and four hits before departing. Zach Duke recorded the final out of the seventh, Will Smith tossed a scoreless eighth and Jeremy Jeffress finished up in a non-save situation as Milwaukee handed Cincinnati its ninth consecutive road loss.
The Reds pushed across a run in the fifth on Billy Hamilton’s sacrifice fly before the Brewers tallied twice in the bottom of the inning. Lohse stroked a one-out single and scored when Gomez’s triple eluded the sliding attempt of Jay Bruce down the right-field line and Braun later plated Gomez with his infield single to the right side.
Rickie Weeks led off the sixth with a double and Reynolds hit a one-out blast to left off Mike Leake (7-9), who allowed four runs and 11 hits in six innings. Reynolds added a solo blast to left-center field in the eighth off Cincinnati reliever Jumbo Diaz for his second multi-homer game of the season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez went 1-for-4 while becoming the 16th active player to participate in 2,000 career games. … Reds SS Zack Cozart (two swollen fingers on throwing hand) sat out after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday’s game. … Milwaukee 2B Scooter Gennett (quadriceps) missed the contest and might not return until Saturday or Sunday.
