Reds 4, Brewers 2: Jay Bruce snapped a career-worst 0-for-26 slump with a two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning as Cincinnati took two of three at home to continue its recent mastery of Milwaukee.

After the Brewers knotted it at 2-2 in the top of eighth on a pinch-hit RBI single by Rickie Weeks, Brandon Phillips drew a nine-pitch walk off Will Smith (1-2). Three pitches later, Bruce belted a 1-2 fastball from the southpaw deep into the seats in right-center for his first hit in seven games and first home run since June 21.

Mat Latos (2-1), who gave up Weeks’ game-tying hit, allowed only two runs on four hits over eight frames before Jonathan Broxton worked a flawless ninth for his sixth save. Bruce finished with three RBIs while Devin Mesoraco went 3-for-4 with a run-scoring single as the Reds defeated the Brewers for the seventh time in 10 meetings this season and 18th time in their last 25 meetings in Cincinnati.

Back-to-back one-out singles from Todd Frazier and Phillips in the first put runners on the corners for Bruce, whose RBI fielder's choice to second plated the first run. Ryan Ludwick was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat and Mesoraco followed with a flare to right-center to make it 2-0.

Latos retired the first 10 batters he faced until he walked Jean Segura and did not allow a hit until he gave up a single to open the fifth to Aramis Ramirez, who was thrown out by center fielder Billy Hamilton as he attempted to stretch it into a double. However, Logan Schafer tripled and scored on a groundout in the sixth before he doubled with two out in the eighth and came across to tie it on Weeks’ hit.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Milwaukee RF Ryan Braun (back spasms), who was pulled early from Saturday’s game after tweaking his back during batting practice, did not play Sunday and was replaced by Schafer. … Cincinnati 3B Ramon Santiago was initially awarded an inside-the-park homer in the second, but the play was eventually overturned and ruled an out when replays clearly showed that a fan reached over the fence and obstructed Schafer’s opportunity to make the catch. … Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo yielded two runs on eight hits over seven innings.
